US House Education Appropriations

The House of Representatives held hearings yesterday on the President's 2008 Education Budget Request. This is the bill that funds NCLB. The hearings included a lot of discussion about NCLB -- we found it all to be pretty interesting -- and might be regarded as a precursor to future NCLB reauthorization hearings. If you missed the hearing on C-SPAN, you can still watch it from the C-SPAN web site (just look down the page at the Recent Programs for House Approp. Subcmte Hearing on Fiscal Year 2008 Budget). Note that the Hearing is different from the C-SPAN interview with Secretary Spellings currently at the top of the page.

The full webcast is listed as being available on the subcommittee web page. The subcommittee also lists a webcast of this morning's hearing on special education and rehabilitative services budget as being available. Please note that the subcommittee webcasts appear to be kind of erratic -- sometimes they are available, sometimes they are not. I've been able to tune in to what's happening in the subcommittee hearing room live, but have not yet been able to watch any archived webcasts using their links.

I'd recommend the C-SPAN version as long as the link stays up (usually 30 days).
