So, what does the Governor's veto mean for education?

1. The supplemental education funding has been passed and signed by the Governor.
2. Governor Henry vetoed most of the "general appropriation" part of the bill. It actually wasn't a clean general appropriation ("GA") bill, since it included increases in some things. For example, a $600 teacher raise was included in the "GA" bill. Other things, such as beginning to fix the teacher retirement fund, were not.
3. It's back to the drawing board for all of the 2007-2008 budget for all agencies. This means that education won't be funded by April 1, but then, it hardly ever is....

That's about it. Instead of having a "GA" bill in the bank and fighting about the $66 million that wasn't appropriated in that bill, the Legislature will do it all over again.
