Effects of millions spent on tutoring for MCAS uncertain - Boston.com

BOSTON --The state has spent millions of dollars on tutoring since 2002 in an effort to raise the MCAS scores of thousands of needy children, but no one is certain whether the extra help is having any affect, The Boston Globe reported.
In the meantime, money flowing to the tutoring industry is expected to swell during the next few years.
"The key question is, 'Are our kids getting the bang for the buck?'" said William J. Slotnik, executive director of the Community Training and Assistance Center of Boston, which works nationally on education issues. "I don't think we know. ... It's a national scandal."
