Rebecca Hamilton (D-OKC) has authored a bill that would limit the hours students under the age of 18 may work.  Currently, the law only limits the hours that children under the age of 16 may work.  They would not be able to work more than 18 hours per week (unless they maintained a 3.5 GPA). Eduwonkette has a good article on one of the other reasons: state accountability programs, all by themselves, improve test scores on state tests.
